To gain a better understanding of how students are screened & referred for TAG testing please read the following:
Screening and Referral
Each year, TAG teachers complete two different screenings of ALL students in the building.
The first screening is called the Automatic Referral and happens in August. Teachers review students previous year test scores to determine if screening requirements are met. If supporting documentation is found, the student will be referred for testing.
In January, the second screening begins. This is known as the Teacher Referral Screening. During this screening, teachers observe ALL students during a two week window for characteristics of giftedness. If a student is found to exhibit FIVE or more of the characteristics at extremely high levels and frequency, then teachers will look for supporting documentation. Students meeting these requirements are then referred for testing.

A permission to test form will be mailed home and parent consent is required to move forward with testing.

Determining Eligibility
Once TAG teachers complete all testing, and scoring, the TAG Eligibility TEAM meets to review scores, determine which students met the requirements and prepare testing result letters to be mailed home. Students found eligible will require a parent consent to serve in order to begin TAG.
Students who qualified from the Automatic Referral Testing in the Fall will begin the TAG program in November. Those students found eligible through the Spring Teacher Referral Testing will begin TAG the following Fall.
It is important to understand that each child's screening and eligibility situation depends on a number of variables including grade level, date of tests, scores, etc.
